The language of leather
Every part of the cow hide can be used, it can be a little complicated when talking about the cuts of leather. Certain areas of the cow skin lend themselves to certain jobs, here is a brief description
A - 1/2 Shoulder, A+B Full Shoulder - Thickness between 1.2 mm - 4 mm, sizes vary between 7 sqft and 17 sqft, used in the saddle trade and for fancy goods
C/D - Mini Butt - Thickness between 3mm - 5 mm, size approx 10 - 12 sqft, better selection than a shoulder, used for belts or short bridles and for saddle flaps
A+C Full Butt - the same as a mini butt but longer minimum 5 ft long, used mainly for Bridle reins
E - Belly- Thickness 1 mm - 3mm Size approx 6 sqft- softer than the rest of the hide, used for linings or lower grade products, has a tendency to pipe
A+C+G - 1/2 Backs thickness 3mm - 5 mm size approx 20 sqft - used for longer reignsÂ
A+C+E 1/2 side thickness 1.5mm - 3mm
size between 17 sqft - 28 sqft, this is literally half a cow, so the different parts can be used as needed.
A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H whole hide, this is the whole of the cow
Full Grain Leather
Full grain Leather is leather that has not been buffed after being tanned, it shows all the natural characteristics of the leather including scars and variation. The surface is very smooth and hard wearing, it is ideal for fancy leather goods and the shoe trade

Corrected Leather
Corrected Leather is leather that has been Buffed after Tanning and a artificial finish has been embossed into the grain, this can vary from hair-cell Print to a smooth Print to a crocodile print and many many more prints. this process hides some of the natural characteristics and blemishes from the leather
